Lucky Luca wins Lafarge GTEC Aqua Board Competition
Thursday, February 25th, 2010
One lucky drylining customer can enjoy the next five years without water bills. Luca Baldwin, who runs his own tiling business, has won Lafarge Plasterboard’s GTEC Aqua Board prize draw competition.

After picking up Aqua Board to test its moisture and mould resistant properties, Luca discovered that the board is easy to cut and install and “water doesn’t bother it at all.” Now Luca does not have to worry about water either because one of the UK’s leading plasterboard and drylining systems manufacturers is picking up the tab.
Builders merchants Selco took part in organising the competition with Lafarge. Bob Yates, Selco’s Heavyside Supervisor and Gary Danks, Lafarge Plasterboard Sales Representative, presented the award at Selco’s Tyseley branch in South Birmingham.
Collecting his prize, Luca said: “I’m delighted to have won the competition, and I’m also thrilled with Aqua Board itself. It’s really nice to use because it’s much easier to cut and install than cement based boards, so it saves time and money. It’s incredibly resistant to water - I even checked some off-cuts that had been left in a wet skip for weeks and they were absolutely fine. I’m glad I discovered it!”
Sioned Webb, Trade Marketing & Communications Manager of Lafarge Plasterboard, said: “Our GTEC Aqua Board has been designed to provide outstanding water, mould and fungus resistance, among its many qualities, and we wanted to play on this high performance capability as part of a competition to reward one of our lucky customers – congratulations Luca!
“We’ve had some great feedback from our Aqua Board purchasers during the competition, which is why we’re looking forward to the launch of our new competition in March, which offers the chance to win a new kitchen or bathroom from Lafarge Plasterboard.”
Simon Humpage, Marketing Manager for Selco, said: “The competition has had a great impact on sales, switching more people onto the benefits of Aqua Board as a result. Details of the next competition will be released in the near future.”
Lafarge Plasterboard’s GTEC Aqua Board is the UK’s first gypsum based board for use in high humidity and wet areas for both internal and external applications.
It is ideal for use as a tile backing board or can simply be painted, giving the user extra flexibility in designing their bathroom, kitchen or wet room. GTEC Aqua Board also provides added confidence that wet areas are protected from elements such as mould and fungus.
Because it’s gypsum based, GTEC Aqua Board has significant benefits over traditional alternatives such as cement particle boards. Firstly, it is lighter and therefore easier to handle. It is also easy to cut; simply treat as normal plasterboard, score and snap. And because its gypsum based there is no need to worry about excessive dust. To fix, there is no pre drilling required and users just use either GTEC Aquascrew High Thread to fix to timber or self tapping for fixing to metal.
GTEC Aqua Board has undergone numerous testing in both the UK and Europe, which guarantees that the product will deliver the performance expected. Lafarge even guarantees that the board will be unaffected even when left on site and directly exposed to all weather conditions for up to six months.
